Along with the fact that today’s working hours are getting longer and longer, there are more and more people try to look for alternatives as their working chair one of which is the use of exercise ball chair. Now, is it really a good idea to make use of such exercise ball as a kind of seating when you are working? If you are among those people who are wondering about the benefits of using exercise ball seating, you may need to think about it before trying it out by yourself.
The main question regarding the use of exercise ball chair is whether or not that it could increase the health and comfort of those using it as their working chair. There is an unfortunate matter that the answer seems to be a big no. There is a man named Jack P. Callaghan who is the head of Canada Research Chair in Spine Biomechanics and Injury Prevention at the University of Waterloo, Ontario, stated that there is no advantage or reason that he can see from the incorporation of such exercise ball working chair related to health.
It is true that sitting on exercise ball chair is going to bring more efforts in order just to keep you in the right position and be stable on it. Yet there are no meaningful differences in the end result. This matter is stated by Dr. Callaghan based on the research done by him and his colleagues. Alternatively there are young volunteers sit on an office chair, a ball, and a backless stool. There is a machine being used to measure the activity of the muscles which clearly showed no clear differences of them.
Using the result of the research as mentioned before, it is now start to get clearer that the use of exercise ball chair is not that good. Such benefits which are previously stated bay some people are there no more. Furthermore Dr. Callaghan added that it does not improve posture or reduce back pain as well.
So, put away any ideas that you have regarding the use of this particular type of seating now. If you have your concern on sitting too much during work, the best solution is to stand up regularly, stand up while answering the phone, or simply move the location of your keyboard so that you can type while standing instead of using exercise ball chair.
